What is the Bookfair?

The Providence Anarchist Bookfair is held in conjunction with AS220's

The Bookfair is for anarchists and non-anarchist alike. We bring
together organizations, presses, and distributors from across the
region to exchange anarchist and anti-authoritarian ideas, showcase a
range of exciting new publications, and offer workshops focused on
important local issues.

Palestine, RIC Students for a Sensible Drug Policy, North Eastern
Federation of Anarchist Communists & More!

Workshop Schedule:

1-2pm: ACTIVISTS UNDER ATTACK: WHY GREEN(SCARE) IS THE NEW RED(SCARE)

Right now, the FBI is in the midst of environmentalist witch hunt
condemned by the National Lawyers Guild as an unconstitutional abuse
of authority. The FBI has engaged in an orchestrated campaign:
issuing subpoenas to
environmental activists, conducting large scale roundups of
activists, levying unprecedented penalties for property crimes, and
using threats of severe sanctions to leverage fear of conviction and
force individuals to turn state's evidence. Jeff Hogg, a nursing
student accused of nothing, is sitting in jail right now for refusing
to answer questions about his politics and political associations.
The political repression and tactics utilized by the FBI affect all
of us.

Featuring: Brendan Story (Family & Friends of Daniel McGowan – see
www.supportdaniel.org), Benjamin Evans (New Bedford public defender,
Board Member of Mass. Chapter of the National Lawyers Guild - 2002
until 2006, founding member of the Boston Chapter of the Jericho
Movement for Amnesty & Freedom for All Political Prisoners) and
Camilo Viveiros (successfully acquitted of felony charges from the
2000 RNC protests after four year campaign – Check out Lessons From
the Criminalization of Dissent:
http://www.earthfirstjournal.org/articles.php?a=895).

2-3pm: LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND: RADICAL PARENTING

Come join four radical mothers for a presentation and discussion
about the role of community in raising children and parenting in the
radical community:

Jen (of M*A*M*A*) talks about her experience parenting a kid with
special needs in the anarchist scene. Sasha Luci (also of M*A*M*A*)
talks about being a younger parent in the scene. Vikki Law (writer,
photographer, zinester) will speak about the support she found from
her fellow anarchists after becoming a mother and about her anarchist
mother survey. China Martens (The Future Generation) talks about
being a mom-of-teen and the importance that the whole community plays
in supporting anarchist parenting aims.

3-4pm DEVELOP-O-RAMA!: UNRAVELING AND FIGHTING PROVIDENCE'S
GENTRIFICATION PLOT, followed by walking tour of downtown providence.

Gated Communities and Luxury Condos in Olyneyville? What are their
plans, and what can we do to stop them? How can we have more control
over their "development"? How can we re-direct Providence towards a
renaissance of justice rather than gentrification?

4-5pm: COMMUNITY ACTION: PLAN B AND BIKE NOT BOMBS IN NEW ORLEANS
Come see a new film (30 min) followed by a discussion with Bikes Not
Bombs of Boston and Chris from Circle A Cycles.

*The workshops will take place upstairs in Perishable Theater
(upstairs from the space we used last year).
