Statement by Alternative Libertaire
This is the third time in five days that an Alternative Libertaire member has been the victim of police repression.
Under cover of "addressing students' expectations", this masquerade was intended to help Villepin improve his image after the CPE disaster.
Yesterday, the second round of this "national debate" was held at the faculty of Law, again at the university of Provence. But this time the administration had decided to call in the heavy guns to smother all protest. The police came to filter those in attendance, letting only certain people though, with the help of a list of names.
A debate that therefore took place without students, in the sole presence of the bosses and the university management.
Outside, the students tried to disrupt this dignified gathering with noise and singing. Only the intervention of students prevented the police from arresting one AL comrade, Jean-Pascal. However, the police did not take no for an answer and charged the student group, manhandling them and using violence.
Jean-Pascal was finally dragged out from among the demonstrators by the police and was beaten up. He was then taken to hospital before being placed in police custody. He is due to appear in court this afternoon.
This is the third time in five days that an Alternative Libertaire member has been the victim of police repression.
Students in struggle, friends and comrades, we must tighten our ranks!
We must not leave him without support!
