Latin American Anarchist Coordination (CALA) Relaunch Statement

December 2019

After a series of meetings and instances, anarchist political organizations in Latin America have decided to relaunch the Latin American Anarchist Coordination (CALA), within the framework of this complex political and social context that our continent is living through. Effervescent times run throughout Latin America. Times where the people have won the streets, resisting and confronting the brutal advance of the most reactionary sectors of the continent and the active presence of US imperialism in its different ways of intervening. The streets of Chile, Colombia, Haiti, Puerto Rico and Ecuador have been scenarios of face-to-confrontation with the ruling class, which tries by all possible means to deepen a system of hunger and precariousness, attacking the most heartfelt demands of the oppressed class. To this we must add the enormous popular resistance developed against the civil-military coup in Bolivia, where the racist violence of those above is being fought with barricades, mobilizations and blockades. Clearly, as we have always said, the hesitation and electoral speculation of the parliamentary left are out of place. At this point, the political organizations of especifismi anarchism not only reaffirm the need to be organized and in tune with the historical moment, as we indicated in the Anarchist Conference of Porto Alegre at the beginning of this year:

“... We are convinced that Anarchism must be operational, agile and in tune with the new social realities to confront the crudeness that this ruthless system imposes on those below.

But for this, we reiterate, anarchism must be organized politically. It is the political organisation that allows militants to process the necessary discussions and debates, make the pertinent contextual analyses, define action and development plans, refine tactics with precision, but also to design a finalist strategy and adapt said strategy to each period of action, to each juncture ... ”

This context, we understand, requires on the one hand to nurture all these aspects depending on firm positions and immediate expressions of solidarity, as well as higher levels of coordinated action throughout the continent. For this we have defined the re-articulation of the CALA, as the expression of coordination between anarchist political organizations from Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina that functioned from the mid-1990s until the end of that decade. Since 2011, we have been making efforts towards higher levels of articulation, fully expressed in the Anarchist Days (Jornadas Anarquistas) encounters that have been developing every two years, bringing different organizations from the region and the world closer.

We understand that this is the time to relaunch CALA as an expression of that coordination of the group of our forces, as an expression of Especifismo, as a historical current and with a projection of Anarchism. A politically organized anarchism well rooted in Latin American peoples and in this time.

In this sense, we also propose the joint task of continuing to develop and deepen theoretical work and the elaboration of conceptual elements that allow us to perform analysis of the reality as accurately as possible, so as to operate in the Latin American situation. Also to establish specific guidelines for this coordinated work, as well as aim to the strengthening and consolidation of new organizations on the continent. The situation demands walking without hurry but also without pause.

We find CALA as a necessary tool at this stage that is unfolding in Latin America, of peoples in the streets resisting the neoliberal model, in order to articulate our presence in these events and provide a firm and clear position of organized anarchism. The stage that opens must find us as best organized and articulated in the region as possible. That's why we invite other organizations to build this road together.

For the construction of Popular Power !!! For socialism and freedom !!!

The European organizations which are part of the Anarkismo network met on the 18th and 19th of November in Genoa. We discussed and exchanged, thought and reflected together, attempting as a network to plan a strategy for forward movement. Delegations from Wales, France, Italy, Switzerland and Ireland - with a warm solidarity statement from our Catalan comrades of Embat - expressed the need to clarify and deepen our common work.

The Anarkismo network has already published a statement that it would wait until all parts of the accusations by Reid Ross and Stephens were published, as well as the answers of M. Schmidt, before making any judgements on the case. Now that this has been forthcoming, as well as two more responses by Reid Ross, we are issuing a second statement to make public our intentions regarding the present situation.

We are very pleased to be able to congratulate you on the realisation of your First Congress as a specific anarchist political organisation. In light of the disbanding of the Federación Anarco-Comunista Argentina we believe that this is a very important step both for our shared especifista tendency as well as for the development of anarchism in general, both in Argentina and the region.

In the last few years, Anonymous has gained increasing notoriety for its action against websites, agencies and organizations that promote censorship and control. It has helped spread information and supported protestors demanding freedoms and rights. But the popularity of the movement, the attention it brings along, and the structure it has engendered threaten to push Anonymous away from the decentralized, collective movement it has been. As decisions become more centralized and newcomers jump on the bandwagon, Anonymous risks becoming yet another ineffective reformist group, fueled by well-meaning rethoric but subject to third party interests and paralyzed by its fear of authority...

Anarchism & Socialism: Reformism or Revolution?
by Wayne Price

From the Foreword by Andrew Flood (Workers Solidarity Movement--Ireland):

"This collection of essays by Wayne Price…will hopefully play a significant part in helping us build the movement we need…..This volume represents a good foundation to this process. It revisits many of the essential basic questions and lays down a coherent position in regard to them. Wayne's insights are important to us because they are based not just on a theoretical study of revolution but on five decades of practical experience in the North American left and the anarchist movement"

imageFor the Popular Classes of the World, Pandemic, Crisis, All Times Are Times of Struggle! Mai 01 by Various anarchist organisations 0 comments

”May Day should be a symbol of international solidarity – that is of a solidarity that is not limited to the frame of the national state, which always fits with the interests of the privileged minorities of that very country. Among the millions of workers who bear the yoke of slavery, there is a unity of interest, regardless of the language they speak and the standard under which they were born. But between the exploiters and the exploited of one country, there is a continuous war that cannot be resolved by any principle of authority and is rooted in the contradictory interests of the various classes. All nationalism is an ideological disguise of the true facts: it may at one time drag the great masses to its lying representatives, but it has never been able to abolish the brutal reality of the things of this world” (Rudolf Rocker, 1936).

2020 has started with some changes at region level, and especially with the continuity of the huge and incredible mobilization of the Chilean people. That popular revolt which has been through more than 100 days, has changed social and political situation of that country, and also has impacted the entire region. New scenery appeared and, as we said in preceding analysis, comes within the framework of the huge wave of popular mobilizations that’s been deployed for Latin Americans communities (Haiti, Ecuador, and other countries with less intensity). As we can see, it’s time for the people on the streets, these are fighting times. At the same time, it’s starting all over the world a new economic crisis that’s being increasing with Coronavirus and its impact on international markets. The issue of Oil and its effects on peripheral economies from Latin America also can impact the cost of living and the ultra-liberal technocracy’s legitimacy, which continues being part of this new phase all over our continent. But also, the coronavirus’s pandemic brought with it a series of changes in this new phase, which is difficult and premature to judge its impact. Nevertheless, its impact compels us to discuss a new situation, a global phase that is changing with masses control policies and increasing repressive measures, and there’s where the three decades of neoliberalism’s ravages becomes evident with the breakdown of public health and social safe measures. We divided this analysis into two sections: a first one addressing Chilean mobilization and social and political changes over the continent; and a second one with a primary analysis about the new situation that has been triggered since Covid-19‘s expansion. imageWhy class struggle? Mär 16 by Melbourne Anarchist Communist Group 0 comments

The Melbourne Anarchist Communist Group advocates that Anarchists should orient their strategies to the workplace.

Other areas of struggle are also vital. People can and should struggle against oppression wherever they find it and struggle outside the workplace can win reforms and radicalise people. But unless we take the workplaces off the capitalists we’ll never beat them. Our victories will be partial and reversible. Our struggles outside the workplace should also be directed towards building a force that can take its politics inside it. Only the multi-racial, multicultural and gender diverse working class can rid the world of capitalism.

This article points out our weak position in the global struggles against the state and the system . It tells the readers that the current system is more advanced and more stronger than before so that using the old methods of struggles do not work, benefiting the state and the system.
