Press release about the ongoing revolt in Turkey
International Solidarity against statist repression in Turkey
Since several days, a large scale popular movement is growing against the AKP state in Turkey. The start of this movement take roots in the struggle against urban gentrification in Istambul, and more specifically against the destruction of the Gezi parc for the benefit of real estates developpers.
But the uprising take a more general dimension, and this is all the reactionnary politic of the governement who is denounced (attacks against women by restriction acces to abortion, to the pill, attacks against secularism, against public liberties in the name of a politicp-religious ideology, attacks against already thin social rights).
This same governement is also pursuing a policy of state terrorism against kurdish people, against the workers and student movement, with several thousand of political prisonners nowadays.
Against him, the anarchist movement, and more widely the worker movement, the feminist and LGBT movement from Turkey take all the part they can to the popular revolt.
But in the same time, the reactionnary « secularist » movement, nationalist or fascist, are trying to instrumentalise this uprising to weaken the peace process enagegd by the governement with the kurdish guerilla, and to punish the givernement for its takeover of the traditional « kemalist » sector of the army. This logic of nationalist and fascist instrumentalisation is for now kept at bay by the large presence of the turkish and kurdish revolutionnary movement.
The popular movement was the target of a brutal and bloody repression from the state, but it did not vanish. It may be the catalyst of a big scale uprising which started to spread in other cities of the country (Ankara, Izmir, Antalya).
The anarchist group coordination (France) commends the popular revolt and assure the libertarian comrade in Turquie of its entire solidarity against state repression, but also against fascist and nationalist tendancies
