 A video looking back at an Occupy Rochester and Occupy Together protest focusing on the private prison industry. UnOccupy the Prisons: Targeting Wells FargoWells Fargo currently has four million shares in the GEO Group and Corrections Corporation of America, which are private prison companies that directly profit from the mass incarceration we see in our communities today. As we lock up more people than in any other industrialized nation, our communities of color seem most intimately affected as mass imprisonment has been a tool used to create a permanent underclass. The objections to the private prison system may seem obvious: they profit in having people locked up, and therefore their interest is in creating and enforcing laws that do so. Therefore companies like these have become major opponents in the loosening of drug laws and an end to the "War on Drugs," which disproportionately targets poor communities of color. Major companies like Wells Fargo refuse to cut ties with them, but if pressured to do so would level a major blow to their public holdings. This video shows a recent protest action coordinated by Occupy Rochester and the traveling Occupy Together bus, targeting a local branch of Wells Fargo to bring up the issues of the growing prison industrial complex.

On May 19 a march of about 30 people got together to make its way to the National Archives in Ottawa. In the building there was a symposium about National Security where they would talk about Security Certificates and other things which are used to detain people with no evidence and such.
There is only one way to achieve any justice for Trayvon Martin and the thousands of other young, African-American men and women who have been profiled, attacked or killed because they were walking or driving while Black, and that is to resist, to rise up, and to rebel... If we want justice for Trayvon Martin and if we want to confront racism, racial profiling and the wholesale attacks on young African-Americans and people of color, then we must bring it. There is no justice for Trayvon Martin under this system. Be prepared. What we have to say, all of us is: Justice is coming and we are all bringing it.
At the end of October, Denis Vranich, a millionaire night club owner and property speculator was convicted of a sexual assault on a 22 year old his employee working at his club. The Hamilton Spectator reported that "Vranich grabbed the woman, pulled down her bodice, groped her breasts and penetrated her with his finger", in her Victim Impact Statement the employee reported "The thought of him makes me absolutely nauseous and brings on panic attacks" writes Andrew Flemming.
This following essay contains my personal analysis and critique of the death penalty mainly as it applies specifically to liberal democracies (centered around the united states). I'm basically attempt to deconstruct and determine the validity of common arguments for the death penalty and analyze their legitimacy, and contrast it with some of my own against it.
