Editorial

The 5th Congress of the Coordination des Groupes Anarchistes was held from 1-3 November 2012 in Toulouges (Languedoc-Roussillon region), with the aim of enabling our organization to continue its deliberations and refine its proposals at a time when we must face social situations of blatant injustice, and participate in - or even come forward with - strategies for struggle against the arrogance of the bankers, bosses and rulers.

Around sixty delegates gathered in order to deal with the questions facing society today.

"Faced with the crisis of capitalism, let's build a social alternative" - this is the slogan of the CGA against a capitalist system that can only produce inequalities and make it impossible for the vast majority of the population to satisfy its basic needs. "More than ever, there is therefore a need for a social revolution to end capitalist barbarity". A revolutionary break is necessary, one which "can only result in the development of struggles and popular self-organization, and which will not be the work of any 'supreme saviours' or guardian angels or 'vanguardist parties'". "For the CGA's militants, "the State cannot be an instrument of social transformation in the context of individual and social emancipation".

The session on anti-patriarchism helped us remember that the organization's motion was the fruit of long, intense debate in December 2011 and is a true reflection of our collective thoughts. We continue our emphasis on denouncing "rape" and "violence against women" and stated that it is "the system of male domination [that] organizes oppression of women through unpaid domestic labour and the responsibility for bringing up children, appropriation of their bodies by women from freely choosing what to do with their bodies, violence against them (from harassment to murder), inequality in the workplace, and differentiated education for girls and boys". Once again, it is through collective struggle that the CGA wants to destroy patriarchy and end rape and violence!

With regard to international issues, the conference participants agreed on the need to federate with the Anarkismo network. An internal committee was charged with drafting a text to make our proposals. Elsewhere on the international front, we agreed to continue to develop existing relationships, paying particular attention to our contacts at European level.

The congress produced an anti-fascist motion which deliver a timely message of mobilization and unity around our libertarian ideas and aspirations: "...make every effort to block the road against the fascist vermin and all authoritarian tendencies..." and "... mobilize as widely as possible to create favorable conditions for the eradication of fascist ideas and actions and their spread through our societies...". This is the sense of the thinking that has guided us and that translates necessarily into bringing these ideas to the social struggles, which provide a "privileged terrain for the inevitable confrontation against the various forms of fascism, while at the same time fighting against capitalist barbarism and State authority, and struggling for the emancipation of all individuals".

In conclusion, this 5th Congress has allowed CGA militants to take another step towards reaffirming their commitment and their integration in the field of social protest.
