Tunis: International meeting on the struggles

An international meeting was held in Tunis from 30 September to 2 October in which the CGT participated.

The meeting was organized by Tunisian comrades from the Popular Liberation Front of Tunisia and had to overcome the problem of a last-minute refusal by the Minister for Youth to allow the meeting to take place in the Menzah youth centre as planned. At last however the plenary sessions took place at the Ibn Rachid cultural centre in the centre of Tunis.

Workshops were held on precarity, unemployment, self-organization, art and urbanism, universities, knowledge and culture, migration, debt, networks and autonomous communications.

Here is a translation of the final resolution and the summary (in French) of the workshop on debt, precarity and unemployment.

Final Declaration

We students, precarious workers, unemployed workers, activists and militants from Europe and North Africa, came together in Tunis for a transnational meeting of the Struggle Network from 29 September to 2 October 2011. We made each others' acquaintance and shared our collective experiences as part of a joint process of struggles that we are creating, beginning with our various practices. The crisi is global - our struggle must be the same.

We are all engaged in the mobilizations and movements against all the tyrants and regimes of global finance capitalism, in North Africa and in Europe. We are seeking to build a new transnational space by linking up the various local struggles, and new forms of organization which go beyond and against the autocratic regimes and the system of political representation. No-one represents us.

Over these four days, we discussed precarity, unemployment, self-organization, art and urbanism, universities, knowledge and culture, migration, debt, networks and autonomous media. The workshops were held in Tunis, Sidi Bou Saïd, Regueb and Sidi Bouzid, Hammam-Lif and Sousse.

A website will be launched in order to coordinate our efforts and enlarge our network: http://international.r02.org.

A large transnational meeting will take place once a year and thematic meetings will take place whenever necessary in order to improve the network. We propose to hold the next thematic meeting in early 2012.

We will be taking an active part in the global day of action, United for Change, on 15 October. In our struggles and in the occupation of public places we proclaim:

Stop the banksters!
WIpe out the debt!
No more austerity!
Knowledge is a common good!
Freedom of movement for all!
No-ones besides ourselves represents us!

We will not pay for your crisis
It's our turn to speak out - It's our turn to act - We are on the move!

Whatever happens, I am here to stay!

Erhel! Get out! Que se vayan todos!
