Founding of the Federación Comunista Libertaria in Chile

We are pleased to announce that on 25-26 December last, a Founding Congress was finally held to merge the Santiago anarchist-communist groups. The new organization will be called the Libertarian Communist Federation (Federación Comunista Libertaria - FCL).

This is the result of a process of profound, systematic discussion between organizations in close contact for over a year. In the past two months the debate intensified, leading to the birth of this new organization.

The Congress received many greetings from sister organizations both from abroad and from other cities in Chile. The debates sought to deal one at a time with the programmatic issues that brought us together, starting with a document of presentation [English translation forthcoming - tr.] which expresses in general terms our principles and our strategic line. Then we discussed and voted on resolutions regarding our analysis of the current situation, our general strategic line for the period, our tactics in the political and social fields and the structures our work will use.

This new organization, and the political programme adopted by the Congress, are intended to be the continuation of previous organizational attempts within the anarchist communist movement in these lands.

Politically, the main challenge we must face now is to build a nationwide anarchist organization, while socially, we need to strengthen the presence of our organization within the popular movement. These tools are what we hope will allow us to exert an influence, decisively and consistently, so that the libertarian project can become dominant in the social changes that the people are expecting and building.

For Socialism and Freedom!
Long live those who struggle!

The statement is not clear on exactly *who* formed the FCL, so a Chilean comrade tells me: "The group was composed by people in Estrategia Libertaria (formed by some ex members of OCL), the people of ORA-VN a small anarcho-communist group of youngsters who never were in EL or OCL, and CL, another organisation of the same type, formed by people involved in FEL."

A bit of clarity on names:

Estrategia Libertaria
OCL = Organizacion Comunista Libertaria
ORA-VN = Organizacion Revolucionaria Anarquista - Voz Negra
CL = Corriente de Acción Libertaria

Both EL and ORA-VN were members of Anarkismo at the time of the FCL's birth.
