The Union Communiste Libertaire launches its new website

After several months of preparation, the UCL's website is now online at long last. The site contains all the latest news about the organization, archives of the federation's publications together with our basic documents, such as our Aims & Principles and our Constitution.

You can access the site at www.causecommune.net

This project had a double objective. On the one hand, we are seeking to increase the visibility of the UCL and the libertarian movement to the general public, that increasingly gets its information from the web. Like the federation's other publishing projects, we believe it is important to demonstrate through concrete and lasting achievements that anarchism as a project is both serious and accessible. On the other hand, we hope that the site can become a useful resource for activists, both members and non-members of the UCL, making material available that can be used to support the work of libertarians on the ground.

The activation of the site does not mean the end of the project for the UCL. In the coming weeks, the complete archives of "Cause Commune", Éditions Ruptures and the magazine "Ruptures" will be published online, as well as sections which will host our calendar of activities and mobilization materials. The blogs of the UCL's local groups, currently hosted at Google Blogspot, will also be moved to Causecommune.net.

On a technical level, the website uses Drupal 6, a free content management system, which will allow us to expand the site with the various modules created by the Drupal community. In terms of hosting, the UCL has chosen Koumbit, a self-managed collective of autonomous workers who are specialized in web technology.
