Friends and comrades internationally, on this Mayday we send both our warmest greetings as well as an announcement of the creation of a new organization.

We are the First of May Anarchist Alliance (M1). Formerly we had constituted ourselves as small proto organization, the Michigan-Minnesota Anarchist Group (MMG). The MMG formed five years ago with its members having a much longer history of collaboration, in some instances reaching back to the 1980’s through an array of revolutionary anarchist organizing. With the creation of M1 we move from the purely informal to a more public presence and engagement with the broader anarchist and revolutionary movements.

Today is a dynamic time filled with potentials as well as challenges and dangers. The vast working classes and poor suffer constant attack by capitalist empire. Wars and occupations, ecological catastrophes, parliamentary and street based attacks on immigrant/undocumented workers, reactionary political forces that are organizing to impose racist hetero-sexist and patriarchal morality on society (often by murderous force). Yet, we still see struggle and resistance! The vast working classes and poor refuse to be subjected to the rule of the boss class.

Over 120 years ago the masses fought for respect, dignity and a radical anti-authoritarian vision of social reconstruction. The Chicago Martyrs, hanged in the ruling classes attempt to silence the struggle, only created a more generalized voice, a voice that connected to an international working classes aspirations.

The fight continues and is ever the more urgent. We need to connect with and be one with the broad working classes and poor, demonstrate mutual aid and solidarity, and help identify and draw out people’s capacity to organize autonomously, creatively, and in a determined fashion.

Over the next few weeks we will be releasing more documents on our alliance’s organization, political visions, and current organizing. We look forward to discussion, debate and the prospects for common work around the class and social struggles.
