Come to the Libertarian Socialist Climate Block on December 12:

To all climate and labour activists:

The purpose of the COP15 Climate Summit that will take place in Copenhagen in December is to devise a successor for the completely inadequate Kyoto Treaty for reduction of carbon emissions. However, the prospects for an agreement that is ambitious enough to deliver social justice and climate justice are almost non-existent. For us, it is clear that the climate crisis cannot be solved within capitalism, and that environmental conflict is intrinsic to the capitalist system. This is because capitalism is based on constant expansion and infinite growth, this is clearly impossible on a planet with finite resources.

For this reason, Libertarian Socialists urges all libertarian socialists, climate activists and labour activists to take part in the struggle to overthrow capitalism and build a free, fair and just society. We need to create a system which puts humankind's need for a functioning ecosystem before capitalism's need for maximal profit. To achieve this, the environmental movement and workers' movement must organise to create a new society - a society governed by states and capital will never solve the environmental crisis.

For these reasons we will gather on 12 December in Copenhagen to shout: Climate struggle is class struggle!

We will gather at Kongens Nytorv on top of the metro station by the pyramid-shaped windows under the red and black flags. We can be contacted via email at lskontakt [at] gmail.com. We will march with the mass demonstration, where we participate in the System Change - Not Climate Change mass bloc. The demo organisers have asked that no civil disobedience should be carried out during the demonstration. Comrades are asked to respect these guidelines if they want to join our block.
