Anarchist Communists in the 12 December General Strike
The mobilisation and participation of FdCA members in the preparation for the General Strike and their participation in the various regional or provincial demonstrations called by the CGIL or the grassroots unions was an opportunity to reaffirm the presence within the community and within the various trade unions of Italian anarchist communists and their federation. As a result, we were able to distribute hundreds of copies of a special issue of our news sheet, "Alternativa Libertaria", which contained the FdCA's political line on the economic crisis and the universal significance of the general strike as the right of every worker, irrespective of political views or union membership.
The FdCA's position on the strike was intended to promote to the greatest possible extent the goal of workers' unity and unity among the various grassroots unions in struggle, on a date which means so much to social, labour and political opposition in Italy.
In certain demonstrations, FdCA members chose to march with their fellow workers in their unions, distributing "Alternativa Libertaria, as in the case of Florence, Genoa, Bologna, Pesaro and Rome. In other places, their presence was more distinct, with FdCA banners and flags, as in the second march in Rome, Palermo, Mestre and Ancona (where they formed a red'n'black sector together with other anarchist and libertarian groups). In all cases, the greatest possibile visibility was given to the class-struggle positions of anarchist communism.
